US carmaker Tesla Inc. on Sunday announced it will build a new mega factory in Shanghai, which will be dedicated to manufacturing the company's energy-storage Megapack.

美国电动车生产商特斯拉4月9日宣布，将在沪新建储能超级工厂。据悉，工厂将规划生产特斯拉超大型商用储能电池Megapack。

The new plant is scheduled to break ground in the third quarter of the year and start in the second quarter of 2024, Tesla said at the project's signing ceremony in Shanghai.

特斯拉在储能超级工厂签约仪式上表示，工厂计划于2023年第三季度开工，2024年第二季度投产。

The factory will initially 10,000 Megapack units every year, to approximately 40 GWh of storage. The products will be sold worldwide. The company's new plant will be located in the Lin-gang Area of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone.

工厂初期规划年产商用储能电池1万台，储能规模近40吉瓦时(GWh)。产品将销往全球。工厂将建在上海自贸区临港新片区。

Zhuang Mudi, deputy secretary-general of the Shanghai municipal government, said the project will help drive the development of the new energy-storage industry, as well as the green and low-carbon transformation of Shanghai.

上海市政府副秘书长庄木弟说，特斯拉储能超级工厂项目的落地签约必将成为推动上海新型储能产业发展和绿色低碳转型的重要力量。
